Wow.....what a day!
It started around 9am looking for a park around the streets of the audition Centre. We parked about a ten minute walk away (with an umbrella in hand because of course it had started raining). We didn’t mind, we were on an adventure and had no idea what to expect. We got to the Audition Centre about 9.30-10am and there was still a line up. We received tickets as we arrived and were then allowed in to the Centre in groups of twenty to thirty, it probably took another 30 minutes. While we were waiting Rob Mills, the new host of the show came and did some film segments with the crowd and we all had to cheer and look …it wasn’t too hard to do. Once we got in we registered and was given a number to stick on the front of our shirt, Walt was number 002051. There were heaps of people all around, lots of dancers practicing their routines over and over again, a few circus type acts and then the singers. The singers got to go up on a small stage at the front and have a shot with the microphone and to keep each other entertained through the day. So Walt got up a few times through the morning and afternoon and sung three songs, Hot Patooti (from Rocky Horror) and two Elvis songs Little Less Conversation and Hound Dog. It was a little nerve racking but the whole idea was to get rid of some of your nerves and it worked well. |

When we were called in to the auditioning
area it was about 2.30pm and we were moved into another area where we had to again sit and wait for our number to be called – sort of like a holding pen…baa baa. Then we were called into another smaller room with about 14 people in it, all wondering what was going on next. Finally Walter had his turn, mum had to stay behind and hold the bags, he was taken to the audition room and there were four men in there and he was asked about himself, how old, what he was going to sing. Walter started off with a big number ‘Rose’s Turn’ from Gypsy Rose Lee and followed it up with Night and Day by Frank Sinatra and Let me Entertain You, by Robbie Williams. He belted them out, as he is prone to do and was pretty pleased with his effort. He was rewarded by lots of encouragement and was told he had done a great job. He was then asked to go have a photo taken as he had done very well at the singing section and had made it through them…..but next was the choreography audition….ohh no…Walter is not know for he suave moves on the dance floor…so he went to the next room for the next stage. This was very quick and he was in and out in minutes. So that is it – the story of Walt’s audition for Young Talent Time, he has a nice shiny certificate and a good story to tell of his day at auditions. The whole experience was a positive one and all the children were made to feel special and every one left with a little bit of hope and a fun day of memories. |
